The setup you choose depends on your needs. Below is a brief description of each setup and how to install SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Individual<\/strong>: For those who will be using SOLIDWORKS Electrical and will not be sharing their electrical data between users.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Network<\/strong>: For those who will be sharing their electrical data between users over a network connection. This installation involves a server and client installation.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve broken up the installation instructions into two parts; one for individual installations or upgrades and another for network installations or upgrades. You just need to find the appropriate section and follow the instructions in that section.<\/p>\n<p>In order to access the installation media, please refer to the first part of our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/blog\/how-to-install-solidworks-2023\/\">installation guide for SOLIDWORKS 2023<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: Prior to any upgrade or changes to existing SOLIDWORKS Electrical software or networks, have all users create an environment archive to ensure that you do not lose your data in the case of a failed upgrade.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Install SOLIDWORKS Electrical for Individuals<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>There are two scenarios for installing SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023 for a single-user local installation. You can start with a new installation or upgrade, found in section 1a, or add it to an existing installation of SOLIDWORKS. You&#8217;ll find those instructions in section 1b. Once you finish either of these sections, continue to section 1c, as all the remaining steps are the same for both.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1a. New Install\/Upgrade:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Select the <strong>Install on this computer<\/strong> option and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-193403\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/diagram-description-automatically-generated.png\" alt=\"When you want to install SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023, launch the installation manager as normal. Adding to an Existing Installation:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Select the <strong>Modify your installation<\/strong> option and click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-193404\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-2.png\" alt=\"If you're adding SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023 to an existing SOLIDWORKS installation, select the modify option shown here.\" width=\"748\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-2.png 748w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-2-300x265.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>1c. Remaining steps<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On the next page, you can add the serial number for SOLIDWORKS Electrical. After you&#8217;ve entered your serial number(s), click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-193405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-3.png\" alt=\"When you either add or install SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023, you'll need to enter the serial number for the electrical product.\" width=\"749\" height=\"658\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-3.png 749w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-3-300x264.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 749px) 100vw, 749px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The following screen is the <strong>Product Selection<\/strong> page. Here, you have the option to install any additional products. If you&#8217;re not taken to the <strong>Product Selection<\/strong> page and find yourself on the <strong>Summary<\/strong> page, you may select the <strong>Change<\/strong> link in the <strong>Products<\/strong> section to return to the <strong>Product Selection<\/strong>\u00a0page. The below image shows the appropriate settings for an Individual Install with the end user machine being the SQL Server host.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-193406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-4.png\" alt=\"Select all additional SOLIDWORKS Electrical components that you want to install on the product selection page.\" width=\"750\" height=\"662\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-4.png 750w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-4-300x265.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Note that SOLIDWORKS Electrical 3D requires SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD and is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only<\/span> included with purchases of SOLIDWORKS Electrical 3D or SOLIDWORKS Electrical Professional. It is not included in SOLIDWORKS Schematic Standard or Professional.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Click <strong>Next<\/strong> to get to the SOLIDWORKS Electrical Options menu, or <strong>Back to Summary<\/strong> followed by <strong>Change<\/strong> in the <strong>Electrical Options<\/strong> portion of the <strong>Summary<\/strong>\u00a0page.<\/p>\n<p>On the Electrical Options page, you will specify the desired folder of your Data Location and specify the SQL Server Name. See the image below for the default entries.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-193407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-5.png\" alt=\"Here are the default entries for SQL Server when installing SOLIDWORKS Electrical.\" width=\"747\" height=\"658\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-5.png 747w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-5-300x264.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 747px) 100vw, 747px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>A Note About SQL Server and SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023<\/h4>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using an existing SQL instance, enter your existing login and password. By default, the SQL Server Authentication login password for the \u201csa\u201d user is blank.<\/p>\n<p>You may wonder if you could use an existing SQL instance that&#8217;s shared with another program. We really don&#8217;t recommend this option and strongly suggest that SOLIDWORKS Electrical has a dedicated instance of SQL Server.<\/p>\n<p>If you have not set up a SQL Server instance before, you can install a new one as shown in the image below. You can specify the name of the new instance and give it a password below. The password must meet Windows security requirements, which you can find more information on in the \u201cPotential Errors\u201d section at the bottom of this article.<\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Back to Summary<\/strong> or <strong>Next<\/strong> to return to the <strong>Summary<\/strong> page and click <strong>Install Now<\/strong> (or <strong>Modify Now<\/strong>\u00a0if adding to an existing installation of SOLIDWORKS).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Network Server Installation or Upgrade<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you intend to have a collaborative environment for the SOLIDWORKS Electrical software, you can follow the steps below to install or upgrade the SOLIDWORKS Electrical Server components on your server host system. This must be done on the server host system and should not be installed from the client system unless your system is set up as the SQL Server host and sole user.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is extremely important to upgrade the server components prior to the clients. If you upgrade and connect a client to the server prior to upgrading the server components, you could run into mass data corruption and loss of information.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prior to moving forward, it is recommended to use <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/d\/sql-server-2019-standard-edition\/dg7gmgf0fkx9\">SQL Standard<\/a><\/strong> rather than SQL Express if you expect to have more than 5 users accessing the server at one time. In addition, the server and client machines will need to be on the same subnet.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One thing I want to make note of is the version of SQL Server. As of SOLIDWORKS 2021, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/solidworks-system-requirements\/\">you cannot use SQL Server 2014<\/a><\/strong>. So, if you&#8217;re upgrading from 2021 or older, make sure you check your SQL Server version.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Upon starting the installation manager, select the <strong>Install on this machine<\/strong> option. On the <strong>Product Selection<\/strong> page, your selections should be as shown in the image below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"662\" class=\"wp-image-193408\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/graphical-user-interface-description-automaticall-10.png\" alt=\"Graphical user interface Description automatically generated with medium confidence\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/graphical-user-interface-description-automaticall-10.png 750w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/graphical-user-interface-description-automaticall-10-300x265.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The reason for including the client install on the server is that it provides the ability to make environment archives from the server machine where your information is stored locally rather than connecting to it over your network.<\/p>\n<h3>SOLIDWORKS Electrical Additional Options<\/h3>\n<p>You can continue following the steps we provided above for the Individual Install\/Upgrade process until you reach the <strong>SOLIDWORKS Electrical Options<\/strong> page. You will want to install all features for the server and specify the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data Location\n<ul>\n<li>Please work with your IT department to determine a suitable location for the Data Location.<\/li>\n<li>You can put this on the C:\\ drive of the server or set it elsewhere on another drive local to the server host.<\/li>\n<li>You need to make sure this is a shared location for all SOLIDWORKS Electrical users.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Collaborative Server\n<ul>\n<li>Name\n<ul>\n<li>You can leave this as \u201clocalhost\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Port Number\n<ul>\n<li>By default this is \u201c26666\u201d but you can reconfigure it as needed for your network firewall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server\n<ul>\n<li>Name (formatted as [Name]\\[SQL Instance Name], by default this is \u201clocalhost\\TEW_SQLEXPRESS\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Password for \u2018tew\u2019 user (by default this is \u201cSQLpwd4ew\u201d)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-193409\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-8.png\" alt=\"To install SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023, you may need to set up a new SQL instance. This is an example for you to use as a guide.\" width=\"745\" height=\"656\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-8.png 745w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-8-300x264.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Following the installation, you will also need to set up both inbound and outbound firewall TCP and UDP port rules for ports 1433-1434 and 26666-266##. The later series of ports will start with 26666 (or what port you specified) and increment up to the number of users expected to be on the server at one time. (If you expect to have a max of 5 users, you would set up rules for 26666-26671). When setting any of these rules, we will want to select <strong>Allow the connection<\/strong> and have all boxes checked when prompted <strong>When does this rule apply<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Network Client Installation or Upgrade<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The instructions to upgrade a Network Client are nearly identical to the Individual installation. The main difference is that you can uncheck the <strong>Collaborative Server<\/strong> and <strong>Data<\/strong>\u00a0options on the <strong>Product Selection <\/strong>page, since these will be provided by the network server.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"749\" height=\"662\" class=\"wp-image-193410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-9.png\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-9.png 749w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/word-image-193402-9-300x265.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 749px) 100vw, 749px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you get to the <strong>Summary<\/strong> page, select <strong>Change<\/strong> in the <strong>Electrical Options<\/strong>\u00a0section. Fill in each section of this page as follows.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data Location: should be formatted as \\\\[Server IP address]\\[Folder specified in server installation]. It is important to use the format referenced above. Using a mapped drive location will cause issues.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborative Server Name: Server IP address<\/li>\n<li>Port Number: 26666 is the default<\/li>\n<li>SQL Server Name: formatted as [Server IP Address]\\[SQL Instance Name]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Potential Issues When Installing SOLIDWORKS Electrical 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"338\" height=\"202\" class=\"wp-image-193411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/c-users-l6q-desktop-electrical_upgrade_error-png.png\" alt=\"C:\\Users\\l6q\\Desktop\\Electrical_upgrade_error.png\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/c-users-l6q-desktop-electrical_upgrade_error-png.png 338w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/c-users-l6q-desktop-electrical_upgrade_error-png-300x179.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 338px) 100vw, 338px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Causes<\/p>\n<p>Invalid permissions<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Machine<\/li>\n<li>SQL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Connection<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Firewalls<\/li>\n<li>Anti-virus<\/li>\n<li>Network connection<\/li>\n<li>Install settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Password<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Incorrect password<\/li>\n<li>TEW password length (also seen as 27506)<\/li>\n<li>You may see this error come up as 27502 (if they have SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional).
