Opening it up, you might have thought, &#8220;how could I ever get a better gift?&#8221; Since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/\">SOLIDWORKS<\/a> is the best design software on the market, when it comes to user interface enhancements, there&#8217;s not much room for a better gift. Yet somehow, SOLIDWORKS finds a way. Let&#8217;s take a look at What&#8217;s New in the SOLIDWORKS 2023 user interface.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wuyDlgq3H8g\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>New and Improved Comments<\/h2>\n<p>Our first gift is the drastically overhauled comment functionality. As of SOLIDWORKS 2023 we now can bold, italicize, and underline comment text. In addition, we now have 5 named color options for each background.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"415\" height=\"423\" class=\"wp-image-191855 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-description-automa-2.png\" alt=\"Graphical user interface, text Description automatically generated\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-description-automa-2.png 415w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-description-automa-2-294x300.png 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By default, they\u2019re set to the following names, but they\u2019re completely customizable.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"530\" height=\"214\" class=\"wp-image-191857 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-application-email-2.png\" alt=\"Graphical user interface, text, application, email Description automatically generated\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-application-email-2.png 530w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-application-email-2-300x121.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the backgrounds, SOLIDWORKS also added functionality to force a comment to show upon opening the file. This is a huge upgrade when it comes to communication.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"415\" height=\"423\" class=\"wp-image-191859 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-description-automa-3.png\" alt=\"Graphical user interface, text Description automatically generated\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-description-automa-3.png 415w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-description-automa-3-294x300.png 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Coupled with that, comments can now contain full-size images or screenshots, such as .jpg or .png files, again easing the burden of communication. These will show up as &lt;image&gt; when looking at the tooltip of the feature or part.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"416\" height=\"425\" class=\"wp-image-191861 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-diagram-description-aut-1.png\" alt=\"Graphical user interface, diagram Description automatically generated\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-diagram-description-aut-1.png 416w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-diagram-description-aut-1-294x300.png 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 416px) 100vw, 416px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>SOLIDWORKS has also made it easier to see where comments are, by adding a new indicator icon next to the feature or part, even going as far as to add a colored dot that corresponds to the chosen comment background color. All of this just goes to further improve your ability to communicate important information.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"337\" height=\"206\" class=\"wp-image-191863 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/text-description-automatically-generated-3.png\" alt=\"Text Description automatically generated\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/text-description-automatically-generated-3.png 337w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/text-description-automatically-generated-3-300x183.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Restoring Default SOLIDWORKS Settings<\/h2>\n<p>A gift bag full of small presents to unwrap here. SOLIDWORKS has now made it much easier to reset our settings should the need arise. The Copy Settings Wizard has been renamed to the SOLIDWORKS Settings Wizard, with a new and improved user interface.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"830\" height=\"592\" class=\"wp-image-191864 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-application-email-3.png\" alt=\"Graphical user interface, text, application, email Description automatically generated\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-application-email-3.png 830w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-application-email-3-300x214.png 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/graphical-user-interface-text-application-email-3-768x548.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"188\" height=\"29\" class=\"wp-image-191865\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/word-image-191849-7-1.png\" \/> A button has been added to the bottom of each tab in the Customize dialog box so you can choose what customization options to reset.<\/p>\n<p>And the gift at the bottom of the bag is that now when you upgrade to the newest version of SOLIDWORKS, the software will keep all customizations and show any new tabs, menus, etc. that were added in a previous version.<\/p>\n<h2>Component Name Display<\/h2>\n<p>Time to open up our stockings. Inside we&#8217;ll find a new option SOLIDWORKS 2023 has added to control the display of component names or descriptions in our drawings and ensure the Model View, 3 Standard View, and View Palette dialogues match up accordingly. When saving a new document, SOLIDWORKS will now restrict you from have preceding or trailing spaces in the document name. While this is a small enhancement, it will ease the transition for those moving towards the 3dx platform.<\/p>\n<p>This will apply in the following instances:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using the \u201cSave As\u201d dialog box<\/li>\n<li>Renaming parts and assemblies from the FeatureManager design tree<\/li>\n<li>Mirror Components PropertyManager<\/li>\n<li>Split and Save Bodies PropertyManagers<\/li>\n<li>Pack and Go<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The software will automatically remove these problematic spaces for you, no need to think about it when saving documents. And rest assured, you can still put spaces in the middle of document names as normal. While a small enhancement, it will ease the transition for those adopting 3DEXPERIENCE.<\/p>\n<p>From comments to naming and everything in between, with all these new enhancements, the gifts just keep piling up.
