SOLIDWORKS Design Binder helps keep varying file types grouped together inside a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/software\/solidworks-3d-cad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOLIDWORKS<\/a> part, drawing, or assembly file. This gives you quick access to simulation results, pdf files, jpeg, Excel tables, and more.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Design Binder Location<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Design Binder is located in the SOLIDWORKS Feature Tree. However, the default system settings actually hide it. To show the Design Binder go to System Options &gt; Feature Manager &gt; Design Binder &gt; Show. By default, SOLIDWORKS automatically includes a Word document, the Design Journal. This is where you may document the progress of your model, assembly, or drawing. To use it\u00a0 Right-Click &gt; and go to Open.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-189864\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/open-DJ-300x242.jpg\" alt=\"By default, SOLIDWORKS includes a design journal document in the design binder.\" width=\"528\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/open-DJ-300x242.jpg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/open-DJ.jpg 484w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A word document named Design Journal will open and you&#8217;re free to start taking notes or documenting your progress.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-189865\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Design-Journal-300x151.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"783\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Design-Journal-300x151.jpg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Design-Journal-1024x516.jpg 1024w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Design-Journal-768x387.jpg 768w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Design-Journal.jpg 1254w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 783px) 100vw, 783px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now let&#8217;s add some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solidworks.com\/domain\/simulation\">simulation<\/a> results to this model. To add other documents to the Design Binder you&#8217;ll right-click on the Design Binder &gt;\u00a0 Add Attachment. Of course, it doesn&#8217;t have to be simulation results. We could add any kind of report we want by following the same process.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-189866\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/add-attach-293x300.jpg\" alt=\"You can add any attachments to the design binder node with a right-click.\" width=\"384\" height=\"393\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/add-attach-293x300.jpg 293w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/add-attach.jpg 346w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This will bring up an Add Attachment dialogue box where you can now browse for the desired files. In the Add Attachment dialogue box, there is the option to Link your selected files. This means that if a change is made to that file outside of SOLIDWORKS, that change propagates to the embedded file. For example, if a design note gets edited or a page gets added to a report then those changes will be reflected in the embedded documents.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-189867\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/link_browse-300x147.jpg\" alt=\"Linking design binder attachments ensures files stay up to date, even when working in other applications.\" width=\"644\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/link_browse-300x147.jpg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/link_browse.jpg 786w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 644px) 100vw, 644px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can easily access the attached files by right-clicking on the document and selecting open.
