How do I &#8220;Un-Promote&#8221; a SubAssembly in my SOLIDWORKS BOM?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Using the Component Options in a BOM is a convenient way to access the configuration&#8217;s Child Component Display settings. Promoting a subassembly in the BOM will move the subassembly&#8217;s components up to the next level.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great way to restructure your BOM.<\/p>\n<p>Greg Buter wrote a great blog on Promoting subassemblies in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/software\/solidworks-3d-cad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SOLIDWORKS<\/a> BOM \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/blog\/promoting-components-in-a-solidworks-bill-of-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">check it out here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But, what happens when, weeks later, we need to \u2018undo\u2019 that Promote and restore the subassembly in the BOM?\u00a0 Our friend \u201cUndo\u201d is not available, and unfortunately, there is no Un-Promote command.<\/p>\n<p>Panicking \u2026\u2026 Is this a permanent change? No, it is not.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s go through all the steps, first, Promoting a subassembly in a BOM, then undo-ing the Promote and restoring the subassembly in the BOM.<\/p>\n<p>Here is our initial Feature tree and BOM in a drawing showing the (2) MS-PNC3MN (Free CYLINDER ASSEMBLY) components.\u00a0 They are shown with a Flexible icon.\u00a0 The Cylinder Assembly contains 3 components.<br Promote:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the drawing&#8217;s BOM, Right-Click on the subassembly icon in the expanded left column, select Component Options.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-176220 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441622320.jpeg\" width=\"708\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441622320.jpeg 1089w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441622320-300x98.jpeg 300w, 708px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Under Child Component, select Promote to move the components of the MS-PNC3MN Cylinder Assembly up a level in the assembly.\u00a0 In this case, they move to the Top-Level.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-176221 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cati.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441624798.jpeg\" width=\"719\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441624798.jpeg 1095w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441624798-300x94.jpeg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441624798-1024x321.jpeg 1024w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/solidworks-1649441624798-768x241.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 719px) 100vw, 719px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The BOM shows the 3 components of the MS-PNC3MN Cylinder Assembly are now at the Top-Level and line items are added to the bottom of the BOM.\u00a0 The line item for the subassembly MS-PNC3MN has been removed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-176222 aligncenter\" to show the MS-PNC3MN Cylinder as a subassembly in the BOM.\u00a0 How do we Un-Promote the subassembly?<\/p>\n<p>Open the Top-Level assembly and notice the Feature Tree \u2013 <strong>there is no change.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe MS-PNC3MN (Free Cylinder) subassembly is still intact and has the 3 subcomponents.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-176223\" previously Promoted, (MS-PNC3MN (Free CYLINDER ASSEMBLY)), and go to its Configuration Manager.<br \/>\nRight-Click on the active configuration and select Properties.\u00a0 We see this
